A morning in Oxford (iii)

Bridge of Sighs

Bridge of Sighs

Modelled on the Ponte dei Sospiri in Venice the Bridge of Sighs was built in 1913 and connects the two parts of Hertford College that are on either side of New College Lane. Note to self: wait a few more minutes until the sun has moved round to avoid the shadow! The rather unusual angle is due to some lovely builder’s hoarding that is currently cordoning off the entrance to the Sheldonian — a lot of historic Oxford seems sheathed in scaffolding at the moment.
