There is a lovely exhibition on at the Banbury Museum — The Magic of Masks and Puppets.

Although the exhibition only occupies a small area, it does cover quite a wide time scale of puppetry, from early Chinese puppets right through to later, cable operated, animatrons like Baby Dawn from Trainspotting.

Every now and again I like to become part of the image…sometimes it is purely for fun, sometimes there is a message (internal rather than external)…but naturally over time the meaning can and does change. That is the wonderful thing about photography…an image can have so many different meanings depending on who is looking at the image and what their state of mind is when they look at it…

As well as the beautiful landscaped gardens with water features and sculpture, there is also a large kitchen garden. Wandering through this is like being in a perfumers!

I went to Rousham at the weekend. Even though I have lived in Oxfordshire for twelve years or so, I have never visited this William Kent landscaped garden. What a pleasant surprise the visit was…an extremely peaceful experience, with loads of fantastic photo opportunities (I’ll definitely go back!) and a lovely bike ride from Banbury to get there!

Journey to Work

I am lucky to be have a variable distance option to work, depending on how far I take the train in the morning. If I’m tired, I have a six mile each way bike journey at the other end, if I’m not, my preferred route is 12 miles each way.

It’s a rural route…i.e. small country roads and a few miles of the National Cycle Network route 5.

Hopefully, over the coming months, I will use more of these routes that cover the country, as a means of exploring areas I’ve not been to before. Naturally it’s best to do this by bicycle — it’s the perfect vehicle for being able to take in your surroundings — like the plaintive cry of a buzzard this morning as it flew about 10 feet over my head.

But the bicycle also allows you to cover large mileages with a low impact on the planet — the carbon dioxide generated in the production and transportation of the food required by the bicyclist, per mile travelled, is less than 1/10th that generated by energy efficient cars. Now there’s food for thought
